The great writer and poet Tamara Davidson started this collaboration by writing based on what she saw in two illustrations from Borish. The illustrations and poem are about "Domesticas" or women in the U.S.( usually from other countries) and the struggles they face as care givers. How do the European American Children they cared for see them once they're all grown up? Food and creativity for thought. And a remarkable job by both Tamara and Borish.
-Rob"Come Bien" Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06807936967660954633noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9096388805057619845.post-16401622064637406712010-03-14T22:54:00.000-07:002010-03-14T23:17:35.898-07:00Neocha<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 73px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Hvm3z6-3LkdpOWEpkTYsWlLm78jS7irjOi6AKVlU1bSHlZNb7M8MCDnRnTvKjorLpA583SEJefY0W9B1g4bHH_xbBqmbnsKqUL8wZyqM3cNugGXfoCYbwQYnKSAn2CgACYf_YVImJuKY/s400/photo-by-neocha-user-dina7.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448735961054862210" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 73px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOyniKylzREycvfiqG0mKI0sFYA7JDaXq5H2lP8wIH6sY8q3X9i5Nk3KBJ7AWyEDfy1lJOa-SWoiESzHLjQESI-Uf-e_jhdX4Rnj2vSZD6yp8qsZg-UFcEUpcxsMOblzUxiE-3j2PZRhRg/s400/photos-by-neocha-user-brooks.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448735955867275602" />
Coolest looking site I've seen all day...These fotos/video are from NEOCHA a website dedicated to art/design/photography/illustration/Film/Fashion and more from Chinese Youth culture..
-Rob
Check out this video on their site"Come Bien" Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06807936967660954633noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9096388805057619845.post-3195925932856814342010-03-13T14:55:00.001-08:002010-03-13T15:01:15.935-08:00VOICES at VONA-Writers of Color Workshop<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 354px; height: 252px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOOUdJAC5pI-W28zQBxvqI0BDcGGvZ5XGsMxfAmHxi2o3bZGm8zrAKzSOVbt0KkUttwC8qG1mEkK9SS9hJYUO6gCYcOLbH_qtAUMm9syvhwIRaaZHW1sKKh1Q0xmQP2YWcTNCvG-uoW9ay/s400/voices_logo.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448256122227877858" /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 181px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7eBAFnDoGniecLdUqf7ZTiHZSIRUqHLR4GucoQrtlOE7FgwvCs9t5TAr8a6JlZu1B-uFp1BpJw10e48tmAYQJK7ss7hKA_ErynYy6-RHErjsBVtP-qI3JOTZ8iuOyWoEW1OrSRq6U5KYX/s400/groupwithjunot.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448256136036360338" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 262px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtltKQ4k7-Z6lbfZmDA4W97Nn-ZWOSRrugr2Xq5U7MZl5seTrUlIhQsgQfFnaURtsiVToinYW6mzxmL7jYvi8KMBSRqNyiMP6lTjisYfv9OfQCrSjNi09kCW1i-8EJzALYcOXZCfHnuAiZ/s400/poltical_content-464x304.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5448256124718782226" />

This summer in San Francisco, writing workshops in creative writing, poetry, Fiction, Memoirs, and Political Content by folks such Suheir Hammad, Mat Johnson, and many more. All while inserting a bit of humor. This team has exhibited their work in the Bay Area, Mexico, Venezuela, and Paris. Not only are they extremely talented and witty, but they have also won awards and countless reviews. Here is a travel opportunity for college students, and one that I've been learning/hearing more about recently. I know, I know, Semester at Sea was a season on Road Rules, but I've talked to a couple of people (one American, one Mexican) that went on a voyage and they had overwhelmingly good things to say. Mostly, like anything, the experience is what you make of it, and how often do you have the chance to go to at least 12 places around the world in 3 months? And sometimes Desmond Tutu is aboard. From what I gather, it's just doing a study abroad program, there are scholarship opportunities and your credits transfer and all of that. The itinerary for Fall 2010 semester is:

Nova Scotia, Canada
Cadiz, Spain
Casablanca, Morocco
Tema (Accra), Ghana
Cape Town, South Africa
Port Louis, Mauritius
Chennai, India
NEW PORT: Singapore
Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam
Hong Kong / Shanghai, China
Yokohama / Kobe, Japan
Honolulu / Hilo, Hawaii, USA
San Diego, California, USA

There's also opportunities for "lifelong learners," parents, and folks who want to go on an "enrichment voyage." I'm so into it I'm even applying to be staff on one of their voyages. Here's their website:

http://www.semesteratsea.org/

And also I just started a blog about travel and movement, check it out if you're so inclined :) :

http://dreykeepingitmoving.blogspot.com/

Peace,
Andrea"Come Bien" Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06807936967660954633noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9096388805057619845.post-64357994192538591612010-02-19T13:10:00.000-08:002010-02-19T13:13:32.776-08:00Lucille Clifton-Rest in poetry
Leconte Mentioned this sisters name to me awhile back. A collaboration between writer and world traveler Andrea Wise, who is currently in Cambodia I think; and Illustrator Robert Trujillo-thats me. Let's see, Andrea does not work through Facebook or myspace so if you want to get in touch with her, please email me and I will relay the message to her. I spoke with Ms Wise about doing this piece because the girl is hella(very) international. nyway, this sister is not only a world traveler but a talented writer, an activist, and a just cool, down to earth person. In a world of aliens in search of gold, platinum, and bullshit that's quite refreshing. So, enjoy and please comment so we can see what you think.
-Rob"Come Bien" Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06807936967660954633noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9096388805057619845.post-7357008707370713002010-01-26T02:25:00.000-08:002010-01-26T02:33:38.566-08:00Akonadi Poster Contest<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 272px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip3S_pO7ZXAhGYJDdy3upZ5imWfV8uaFsFN6LO0JELtVAVxJev9D_RnZzLg-_2tQSeI0dkVDmYQm9RxiUPEOqZwLWTARsQoN-dzWr_5PMS2AqPIWnT-tnSUy_r4upOLOsoZZO31FHhxT7r/s400/3abed9e30c38bfca08db0067c40e1e.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430993495799433522" />
Peace yawl, just came across this poster contest at a local organization in the Bay Area, but as I understand it; it is open to folks from anywhere as long as it portrays what "racial justice" looks like. Check out Akonadi's site for more information.If any of you readers come across contests such as this for visual artwork or creative writing, please hit us up!

From the site: "Since 2000, the Akonadi Foundation has been working to support and nurture a racial justice movement that can finally put an end to the structural racism that lies at the heart of social inequity in the United States".

-Rob
Come Bien Books"Come Bien" Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06807936967660954633noreply@blogger.com0
